Two dead, one injured in Hazleton shooting
HAZLETON – Two people are dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting on the outskirts of Hazleton Saturday evening.
According to Hazleton Police, officers were called to the Hilltop Apartments on East Broad Street just after 5pm for a report of a gunshot victim.
Two people were initially found with gunshot wounds, police said. One was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton and transferred to another hospital. Their condition is unknown, police said.
The other victim was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound.
Police said a third person was also found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. They are believed to be the shooter.
There is no threat to the public, police said, describing the shooting as an isolated incident.
City police were assisted by state troopers and officers from West Hazleton, Butler Township, Sugarloaf, Beaver Meadows, Weatherly, and Penn State Hazleton.
