The Emporia State volleyball team (5-2) has begun to find its rhythm in the young season after winning all four games at the Washburn Invitational.
ESU opened the weekend on Friday with a pair of sweeps against Newman (25-10, 25-23, 25-17) and Truman State (25-21, 25-15, 25-18).
Saturday morning brought some drama as Emporia State found itself in a five-set thriller with MSU-Moorehead. After trailing two sets to one, the Hornets would battle back to force a fifth and get the win (25-18, 22-25, 16-25, 25-19, 16-14).
“I think this year it’s a little tougher to defend us. It’s just, can we get out of our own way?” Emporia State head volleyball coach Ken Murczek told 27 Sports. We missed 40 serves last weekend and had 23 receiving errors, but we cleaned it up. We want to keep building off that and be in the Upper Echelon of the MIAA.”
The Hornets will now travel to Edmond, Oklahoma, to compete in the MIAA-GAC Crossover from September 18 to September 19.
