(KRON) – An East Bay pie shop that began during the COVID-19 has announced its closing its doors soon. Edith Pie’s in Oakland will be serving its last dessert this year.

The pie shop cites financial challenges as the reason for closure. “Since this time last year, there has been a catastrophic downward trend in business. We are down at minimum 31%, with many days now averaging 20 people,” said Edith’s.

The shop has started a GoFundMe to help with debts.

“We could throw blame at tariffs,” said the shop. “We could blame the economy. We could blame the city. There are so many things we could say. But really…. It doesn’t matter. We tried.”

Edith’s Pies said on their website that it has “every intention of being here through Thanksgiving.” The pie spot encouages patrons to stop by and get a pie.
