1 dead after crash on north side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened on the north side of Indianapolis late Saturday afternoon.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the intersection of East 43rd Street and North Meridian Street around 4:04 p.m. to investigate a crash. When police arrived at the scene, they found two cars that appeared to have been involved in the crash.

Upon further investigation of the crash scene, police located a person who had been ejected from one of the vehicles involved in the crash. That individual was transported from the scene to an area hospital in critical condition.

In an update sent Sunday evening, IMPD confirmed that the person who was ejected from a car during the crash had died at the hospital.

Police believe the crash occurred when the driver of a vehicle that was travelling southbound on North Meridian Street collided with a car that was moving westbound on East 43rd Street. IMPD investigators believe the decedent was a passenger in the vehicle that was travelling westbound on East 43rd Street when the crash occurred.

Police do not believe intoxication was a factor in the crash. The drivers of both vehicles involved in the crash were subjected to blood draws in compliance with IMPD’s standard procedure for fatal crash investigations.

IMPD’s report on the crash indicates a 2018 Ford and 2005 Toyota were the vehicles involved in the crash. The report also shows that multiple individuals witnessed the crash.
