Palm and Olive Antiques owner George Huddleston said he wasn’t surprised when he got the call about the crash.
“It’s just like the wild west out here,” Huddleston said.
Two cars crashed into his shop at 8:43 p.m. Thursday, shattering his front doors and side windows.
“The building is pretty much destroyed. So it’s going to take a lot to get it back to where it was. So I really don’t know the fate of my business yet,” Huddleston said Thursday night.
Fresno Police say it all started when they tried to pull over a 17-year-old boy, but he drove away.
“Officers did not pursue the vehicle at the time – just tried to keep eyes on it until we got an air unit overhead. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to pick it up,” Lt. Michael Pierce said.
Officials say the suspect drove straight into another car at the intersection of Palm and Olive Avenues, sending both cars into the antique shop.
“I don’t want to have to close my doors after this, but we’ll see what happens. I just don’t know, you know,” Huddleston said Thursday.
He says he opened the store eight years ago to bring a little life to the Tower District.
The store does not only represents itself, it represents little fragments of the entire community.
He has a diverse variety of merchants who sell in his shop.
Three of them lost product in the crash.
Huddleston was still in shock when he spoke to reporters Thursday night, unsure whether he would ever reopen.
However, he updated YourCentralValley.com with a new determination on Friday, saying he won’t give up until he can reopen his doors.
