BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — September 12, 2025

A woman was taken into custody Wednesday night after a standoff with Bloomington police that followed a domestic battery complaint on the city’s north side.

Police said they were called to the 3100 block of North Kingsley Drive around 4:45 p.m. after a 29-year-old man reported that his sister, 34 years old, assaulted him inside his home. The man told officers the woman sprayed him with a fire extinguisher as he entered the residence, causing him to inhale the chemical contents. He also reported hearing a loud “pop” and feared she may have fired a gun. He fled the house and called 911.

According to police, the woman had access to multiple firearms and refused to answer calls from officers. A perimeter was set up around the residence, and the department’s Critical Incident Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were dispatched.

After hours of unsuccessful attempts to contact her, officers used a drone to search the interior of the home. At approximately 9:49 p.m., the drone located the woman in the garage armed with a shotgun. Police said she eventually complied with commands, dropped the weapon, and was arrested without further incident.

The shotgun was loaded with four shells, one chambered, and the safety switch was off, investigators said. Several other firearms were also found placed throughout the house.

The woman was booked into the Monroe County Jail on a preliminary charge of domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor. Police said no evidence was found that a gun had been fired inside the residence, and it remains unclear what caused the noise the victim reported hearing.
