(KRON) — Officials have identified a woman who was shot and killed along with a dog in a usually quiet neighborhood in Santa Rosa earlier this week. The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as 47-year-old Mollie Schefer.

Officers responded on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 4:30 a.m. to a residence on the 1400 block of Cecilia Drive on a report of gunshots. Responding officers discovered an open back gate and a shattered rear sliding glass door at a residence in the area.

Further investigation led officers to discover two dogs that had been shot and least once and a deceased woman, later identified as Schefer, on the staircase to the second floor. According to police, she had suffered two gunshot wounds to the chest.

Schefer, the coroner determined, died as a result of the gunshot wounds.

Police said the killer, or killers, remain at-large and unidentified. Police are also still searching for the gun. Detectives believe the incident was isolated, and despite the suspect being at large, police say there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Santa Rosa Police Department.
