Two locally-owned Texas gas stations named among the best across America

A survey by American River Wellness asked 3,016 drivers to name the best independent gas station in America—two Texas locations made the list.

#1. Rumpy’s Bakery & Deli, Gainesville, Texas
In Gainesville, Rumpy’s Bakery & Deli earned the very top pit stop. Independently owned and operated, this gas station has earned a reputation as one of the best gas stations in Texas, thanks to its scratch-made fried pies, fresh breads, and deli favorites. Travelers pull in for fuel but linger over flavors like chocolate, coconut, and lemon pies that taste like they came straight from grandma’s kitchen. Rumpy’s blends the basics of a roadside stop with a dose of homemade comfort that keeps people coming back.

#25. Hruska’s Store & Bakery in Ellinger
What started as a family general store in 1912 grew into a service station by the 1950s, and today Hruska’s is still proudly family-owned and operated. Travelers stop here to fill up on gas along Highway 71, but the real draw is the bakery counter stacked with legendary kolaches, burgers, and pies. Four generations of the Hruska family have kept the doors open with the same local care, making it a place where fueling up means stepping into a century-long Texas tradition of food, hospitality, and community.
