Two dead after helicopter crash near Jim Thorpe

CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Carbon County Coroner has confirmed two people are dead after a helicopter crash.

According to the Carbon County Communication Center, units were headed to the wooded area near the 300 block of Maury Road near Penn’s Peak for an aircraft down.

Officials say the helicopter crash involved a helicopter that was doing linework, but did not know exactly what they were doing.

The Carbon County Coroner said there are two fatalities, a pilot and a line worker onboard the helicopter.

The FAA and NTSB are expected to arrive at the scene later Thursday to help investigate the cause the crash.
