Schubert did not come physically to court, but rather appeared virtually with audio only. It was a quick process — only two minutes — but the courtroom was full with Schubert’s family on one side, along with a big group supporting Jubane.
Both the prosecution and defense told the judge that things are moving ahead as scheduled, and they are still on pace to start the trial in March 2026.
Following the hearing, dozens of local advocates rallied outside the courthouse demanding justice for Jubane. They said they plan to show out for every court proceeding, even if it’s just a status hearing.
“It’s important to show that even if the trial is out until March 2026, we feel the pain of this loss and we feel the rage of this injustice,” the chairperson of GABRIELA Portland said. “This community was shattered by this loss of this community member, this friend to this nurse, this coworker. And we feel it every day.”
She said that, along with Jubane, they want justice for all victims of violence against women.
The next status hearing is scheduled for January, with jury orientation slated for the end of February.
