In his Texas GameDay pregame show interview, head coach Steve Sarkisian spoke about the progression Manning is making as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback.
“I think it’s ownership first of all,” Sarkisian said. “This is his offense, he’s the quarterback, taking ownership, being one of the leaders on that side of the ball is very helpful for him with his growth, his confidence continues to grow and the understanding of what we’re trying to do from a game plan perspective and then helping those other guys fulfill their duties and doing their job when their number is called.”
Manning has passed for 465 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions this season. In Manning’s two starts last season, Manning threw for 603 yards, four touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
You can watch the entire interview with Sarkisian on Texas GameDay, which will be broadcast live from Bevo Boulevard at 2 p.m. on KBVO Saturday.
Sarkisian said it’s doubtful running back Quintrevion Wisner, receivers Deandre Moore and Emmett Mosley, along with defensive tackle Alex January will play against UTEP because of injuries sustained in previous weeks.
Texas is in the middle of a three-game homestand. Sarkisian said he’s looking forward to another game at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
“It’s so awesome, I thought last week was tremendous with the home opener, looking forward to seeing the crowd this week, it’s going to be an awesome environment,” Sarkisian said.
Texas will wrap up the homestand against Sam Houston State on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
