A man convicted of murder for a 2024 homicide has been ordered to spend 30 years in jail.
Vernon Sirhyde Archie, 29, was sentenced in Hennepin County court on Thursday for the killing of 28-year-old Da’Vonte Jovan Adams in May of 2024.
Prosecutors say Archie encouraged his accomplice to set up a meeting with Adams in Minneapolis after she’d matched with Adams on a dating app. The two then planned to steal Adams’ car.
The accomplice, Megan Renee Karjala, told police they plotted theft was because they were “desperate for money.”
However, when Adams arrived and the pair tried to rob him, he ran away; Archie ran after him and shot him multiple times, charging documents state. Archie and Karjala then took his car and left him to die.
