Zachary Ingalls, 31, of Orem, has been arrested and is being held on one count of automobile homicide. He has not been charged yet.
On Aug. 1, 2025, a woman was found deceased after a rollover crash on Kyhv Peak Road. The victim was later identified as Kortnie Benson Barajas, 33.
In August, the Provo Police Department said that a man checked into an emergency room in Provo and was treated for head and leg injuries. Shortly after 7 a.m., he reportedly told medical staff that he was involved in a rollover crash, and another person was still in the vehicle.
The Provo Police Department was informed of the rollover and responded to Kyhv Peak Road. After a brief search along the ride, they located Barajas deceased in a crashed vehicle approximately 50 yards from the roadway.
According to the arrest statement, a search warrant was obtained to perform a test on Ingalls following the crash. The urine test allegedly came back positive for THC, opiates, and metabolized alcohol. Similarly, the blood test showed that Ingalls reportedly had THC and morphine in his system.
Ingalls had previously been arrested and convicted for a car accident resulting in serious bodily injury in 2022, police say. Following that crash, Ingalls reportedly tested positive for THC in his blood as well.
On Thursday morning, Sept. 11, Ingalls was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail, where he is currently being held on bail.
After the crash, Barajas’ family stated that they believed she was returning from a camping trip at the time of the rollover. They were not sure of her relation to Ingalls at the time of the crash.
“Kortnie’s passing left a deep void in our lives,” America Miller, Barajas’ sister-in-law, told ABC4 in August. Barajas is survived by her husband and children.
