‘Go home and cry’: Mariposa teacher targets MAGA students after Charlie Kirk’s death, parents say

MARIPOSA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Parents are calling for a Mariposa County High School teacher to be fired after they say he told students that he is glad Charlie Kirk was killed and told “MAGA kids to go home and cry.”

Parents and community members were quick to respond, making their voices heard on Thursday at the school district’s board meeting.

“This behavior is utterly unacceptable,” Brittany Harrington said. “The teacher’s actions, which include endorsing the notion that Charlie Kirk’s death was deserved, are not only morally reprehensible but also set a dangerous precedent in our educational environment.”

A precedent, she said, that “individuals who share Charlie Kirk’s opinions or beliefs are somehow deserving of violence or death.”

“Celebrating or making light of any individual’s death, regardless of their beliefs, is disgraceful and undermines the principles of civility and humanity that we strive to instill in our students. Furthermore, these comments on the harmful message that individuals who share Charlie Kirk’s opinions or beliefs are somehow deserving of violence or death. This is categorically unacceptable. No one should be targeted, let alone murdered, for their views.”

Mother and District 4 Supervisor Jenni Kiser affirmed that the comments were directed at MAGA students, with the teacher allegedly telling “MAGA kids to go home and cry.”

“That is not only inappropriate, it is unsafe,” Kiser said. “Parents should be able to trust that their children are not being taught directly or indirectly that violence is a legitimate answer to disagreements.”

The comment period closed with an impassioned statement from Kyle Summerfield.

“If there’s any truth to these claims, you’re putting our children at risk. This is not just a concern. This is ‘do something now,'” he said, others repeating the sentiment as he spoke. “I’ve stayed silent for years because Charlie Kirk spoke, and now he’s been silenced. So here I am.”

The school board said it will lead an investigation into the alleged comments.
