Fairview council talks GUS board members, projected Jack’s opening date
The meeting began with an update on the new Jack’s Family Restaurant location. Significant progress has been made over the past month, with work on sewer lines being done and sign installation beginning.
Henry stated, “Their target date is still Dec. 1, but if everything works out, they’re hoping to get it opened before Thanksgiving 2025.”
Next up, three Fairview residents were nominated to hold Governmental Utility Services Corporation (GUS) board positions on behalf of the Town of Fairview.
Henry explained, “The GUS board is a vehicle for the Town to use to lease the sewer system to Living Waters. Once we get this locked down, it will keep the Town out of the sewer business…They don’t have any authority after allowing the leasing of the sewer to Living Waters.”
Nominees for the GUS board include Josh Driver, Caleb Garrison and Eddie McParlin. Mayor-Elect Clint Hayes stated, “The way it has been presented to me is that those personnel are to be appointed personnel, in a non-paid position to basically vote and allow Living Waters to manage and process the sewer system.”
The council made a motion to table the discussion for further research on the topic and resolved to make a decision at the next council meeting.
