PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Parkersburg Police Department welcomed a brave honorary member on Friday, who was previously honored by President Donald Trump.
Devarjaye “D.J.” Daniel, a 13-year-old boy from Texas who was diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer in 2018, made his way to West Virginia where he was made an honorary West Virginia police officer during a swearing-in ceremony at Parkersburg City Park, where he was given an official West Virginia State Police uniform and a written statement from West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey.

Following his diagnoses, Daniel’s dream was to be sworn into 1000 law enforcement agencies according to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, which Daniel is also an honorary member of as a special agent.
After the ceremony, Daniel was available for autographs and photos. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office was present and recorded the event, while the Gilmer and Harrison County sheriff’s were also in attendance.
In a post to Facebook, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office introduced Daniel as the newest Honorary Deputy Sheriff; Sheriff Robert Matheny said he “had the honor to meet and talk with this amazing young man.”
Daniel has since met his goal of being sworn into 1000 law enforcement agencies, and was most notably recognized by President Trump, who made him an honorary Secret Service agent during a Presidential address to Congress in 2025.
