According to a press release on Thursday from Kentucky State Police (KSP), the crash happened just before 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 8 on KY-15 in Hazard.
Authorities wrote that state police arrived at the scene along with emergency personnel to find that a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Honda Civic had been involved in a head-on crash.
An initial investigation by state police showed that Roger D. Combs, 78, of Hazard, was driving the black Ram truck heading north on KY-15 when the vehicle allegedly went across the median into the southbound lane, hitting a black Honda Civic driven by Edward Goins, 50, of Sassafras.
Combs was taken to the Hazard ARH Medical Center, and Goins was flown to the Johnson City Medical Center, in critical condition at the time.
State police wrote in a Thursday press release that on Sept. 10, KSP Post 13 had been notified by Johnson City Medical Center’s staff that Goins had died from his injuries in the crash. Combs’ condition was not specified by law enforcement.
Officials said toxicology reports are pending, and both drivers had their seat belts on when the crash happened.
The deadly crash investigation remains ongoing.
