Vance Boelter’s 90 minutes of terror: 4 lawmakers’ homes, 2 shot and 2 killed
Vance Boelter is facing numerous charges both in Hennepin County and at the federal level after he was accused of shooting two Minnesota state lawmakers and their spouses.
According to a criminal complaint, Boelter went to the homes of four DFL lawmakers the morning of June 14 with the intent of assassinating them. He was dressed as a police officer and drove an SUV that had been modified to resemble a police cruiser. A “hit list” found in Boelter’s vehicle included the names of dozens of Democratic elected officials.
Boelter first went to the house of Senator John Hoffman’s residence in Champlin, where investigators say Boelter, disguised as a police officer, shot Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Their daughter, Hope, called 911. Both John and Yvette survived.
After the first shooting, Boelter reportedly tried to enter two other lawmakers’ houses before arriving at the Hortman residence in Brooklyn Park. The prosecutors said Boelter killed House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, her husband, Mark Hortman, and their dog, Gilbert.
Boelter was arrested after a 43-hour manhunt.
Boelter remains in custody awaiting criminal trials in Hennepin County and Federal Courts. His next court date is scheduled in Federal Court for a “status conference” on Nov. 12.
