“Some of them have been vacant for just a couple months, some have been vacant for the better part of a year,” shared Greater Freeport Partnership, Andrea Schultz Winter.
The Greater Freeport Partnership launched Downtown Unlocked, a way to showcase spaces in the buildings to attract developers and business owners for a first-hand look.
“There is just an opportunity to bring more vitality in business into a downtown. We know we have some great business owners and businesses here already, but let’s add more and really create a shopping district feel,” explained Winter.
Linsey McDanel is the executive director for Hope Wins in Freeport, a non-profit that helps parents and children build healthier relationships. She said she wants to expand the organization.
“I envision a space in all areas of town that is made for kids and made for families where they can feel welcome to utilize the space in how they see fit,” said McDanel.
McDanel said an event like this is a great way to explore options.
“To be able to come down and take a look at what’s out there and what’s available, and it gives me things to think about and things to suggest to other people as well,” explained McDanel.
The Greater Freeport Partnership stated that the process of accessing the building is not long, but they hope that business or property owners will pursue it.
