Man found guilty in killing of ex-girlfriend during Jackson home invasion

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man was found guilty in connection to the 2022 home-invasion killing of his ex-girlfriend in Jackson.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced that a jury found Zverian Brent,

32, guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated assault.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of June 7, 2022. Police said Brent forcibly kicked in the carport door of 26-year-old Terrencia Jackson’s home on Fleetwood Drive. Once inside, police said Brent proceeded to the rear bedroom where Jackson and her friend, 31-year-old Henry Perry, were lying in bed.

Investigators said Brent confronted the pair, and after an argument, he shot both Jackson and Perry. Jackson died from her injuries, and Perry was critically wounded. Police said Perry was able to return fire in an attempt to defend himself and survived the attack.

According to Owens, Brent faces a maximum sentence of 40 years for second-degree murder and 20 years for aggravated assault. His sentencing has been scheduled for September 30, 2025.
