A Los Angeles County man has been arrested for murder after his child was found unresponsive in a car and died earlier this week, authorities said.

Edwin Johnson, 40, of View Park, was initially arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and child neglect, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to a report of a child not breathing on the 3800 block of Chanson Drive in View Park-Windsor Hills on Tuesday afternoon.

“The call involved a child who was found unresponsive in a vehicle,” the department said in its original statement. Paramedics soon arrived and pronounced the child dead at the scene.

Johnson’s bail was set at $2 million, and his arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 12.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office told KTLA the case has not yet been presented to them.
