Jersey Shore Lands Spot on Travel + Leisure’s September Beach Getaway List

New Jersey’s coastal strip earned recognition in Travel + Leisure’s worldwide selection of prime September destinations. Among global vacation spots picked for autumn visits, the state’s shoreline stands as its sole representative.

Stretching 90 miles along the Atlantic, this coastal haven keeps its appeal well past summer’s end. The waters stay surprisingly warm, while three distinct towns — Atlantic City, Wildwood, and Cape May — each add their own magic to the mix.

Wildwood

Wildwood’s skies burst with action during the Thunder Over the Waves Airshow, set for Sept. 5-6. Spectators watch in awe as military aircraft zip past while daredevil skydivers float down to earth.

A sprawling boardwalk cuts through Wildwood’s heart. Even as autumn approaches, thrill-seekers still pack the water parks, while screams echo from roller coasters. Arcade lights flash well into the evening.

Cape May

In Cape May, 600 Victorian gems line the streets, painting a picture of times past. The Virginia Hotel caught attention with its beach package running through Oct. 13. Guests get a seaside tent setup, complete with seats, table, and a cooler: plus a $50 credit.

Standing proud as the nation’s first seaside resort, Congress Hall blends its rich past with fresh touches. The spot strikes a perfect balance between yesterday and today.

Atlantic City

Atlantic City pulses with life as Steel Pier’s rides spin against the sky. When the sun sets, the city transforms into a playground for night owls and fun-seekers.

The ninth month brings subtle shifts to shore life. The beach crowds thin out, but the sea holds its warmth. Kitchens keep cooking, matching their peak season pace.

This recognition puts Jersey’s coast alongside far-flung destinations in Travel + Leisure’s September picks. Twenty-one spots worldwide made the cut as ideal places to visit as summer fades.
