Curt Wiebelhaus, a Navy veteran, founded the Kansas Bee Farm in 2023. Not only is the group a beekeeping enterprise, but it’s a mission-driven effort to strengthen local communities, agriculture and food security across Kansas.
Wiebelhaus is hosting the Kansas Honey Festival to celebrate all things honey and pollinators with educational presentations, honey tasting, live demonstrations, vendors, music and more. Highlighted by a blind honey tasting by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Great Plains Master Beekeeping Program, this family-friendly festival will be a fun-filled day for everyone.

“The Kansas Honey Festival promises a fun-filled day for the entire family,” Wiebelhaus said. “With opportunities to learn from expert beekeepers, taste unique honey varieties, shop local vendors, enjoy carnival games and explore one of Topeka’s most historic and beautiful landmarks.”
Other events include a live honey extraction demo from T-Creek Honey, expert speakers on beekeeping and pollinators, as well as live music from local folk band Sloppy But Lucky. Admission is $3 per person, and children under 12 are free.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Ward-Meade Botanical Gardens located at 124 Northwest Fillmore Street in Topeka. For tickets and more information, check out the event page on Facebook.
