BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Spaah, a locally owned day spa that has become a fixture in Bloomington’s wellness community, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month.
Founded in 1995 by Donna Lafferty and her husband, Fred Luehring, Spaah opened on S. Walnut Street offering only hot tub soaks and massage therapy. Over the years, the business expanded its services to include skincare, waxing, manicures, pedicures and sauna treatments, eventually becoming a full-service day spa.
“I was warned that opening a business can be tough; I should expect long hours, stress and a lot of uncertainty,” Lafferty said. “That is true, but something I did not realize was that building a business is also incredibly rewarding. I have thirty years’ worth of incredible memories, thousands of friends, and have learned so much about life, people, and how things work.”
The spa moved to a larger space on N. Walnut in 2005, where it thrived for 14 years and introduced its popular “Sweetheart Special,” which paired massages, hot tubs or saunas with roses and refreshments for couples. In 2019, a change in building ownership forced Spaah to relocate to its current site at 506 W. Second Street.
To celebrate its 30th birthday, Spaah is offering daily specials through Sept. 15, along with surprises for both clients and staff.
