SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A teenager in Shreveport is hailed as a hero after saving his mother from a violent attack.

The incident happened on Tuesday, September 9, in the 6000 block of West 70th Street. Police say when they arrived, they discovered that a female victim had been attacked by the suspect, identified as Timothy Young. The suspect reportedly was on top of the victim, choking her, when her 18-year-old son heard screams.

Without hesitation, the 18-year-old defended his mother once he witnessed the assault in progress and subdued Young until officers arrived. The young man sustained injuries, while his mother suffered significant injuries, including severe bruising and the loss of a tooth.

The Shreveport Police Department commended the bravery of the young man for acting decisively to protect his mother.

Young was arrested for domestic abuse battery and child endangerment.
