A quantity of a controlled substance was also found during a subsequent search, police said.
According to the criminal complaint, at 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Traeger was seen weaving his 2007 Chevrolet HHR in and out of traffic “in a reckless manner” and made “contact of an insulting or provoking nature” with the occupants of a 2019 Honda SUV before intentionally crashing into it at E. State and Alpine Road.
Two other vehicles were damaged in the crash, reports show.
A witness told police that Traeger “appeared to be chasing someone,” and “began to yell at the driver of the vehicle he hit” in a “very aggressive and beligerent” manner.
The passenger in the victim’s car told police she had thrown an empty cup out the window shortly before the vehicle was struck.
Traeger then left the scene, police reported.
Authorities claimed that the female driver suffered injuries to her foot and legs in the crash.
Investigators tracked the ownership of the vehicle to Traeger and obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 600 block of Loves Park Drive in Loves Park, court records show. There, they reportedly found 63 oxycodone pills in prescription containers with the labels removed.
Police later stopped Traeger’s vehicle at 5:19 p.m. near North Mulford and East State. During a search of his vehicle, authorities reportedly found 10 additional oxycodone pills.
Traeger was also charged with possession more than 10 grams of cannabis.
Traeger, who runs the website Rockford Scanner, was previously convicted of felony charges of burglary in 2000, and aggravated battery in 1996.
He faces charges of: failure to report a crash involving injury, aggravated battery/use of a deadly weapon, criminal damage to property between $10,000 – $100,000, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis.
He faces up to 7 years in prison, if convicted.
