Possible dognapper arrested in East Bay park, dogs recovered safely

(KRON) — Two dogs are safe, and a suspect is in custody following an alleged assault and possible attempted dognapping last month at an East Bay park. According to the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department, an assault was reported at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25 on Marine View Trail at Miller Knox Park.

According to police, the suspect followed a woman walking her dogs in the park, aggressively grabbed both dogs by their collars, pulled them away and started to “shake them violently.”

Other people in the park intervened and the suspect left the area.

Officers with the East Bay Regional Park District responded an used a drone to locate the suspect, who was taken into custody. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for attempted robbery, cruelty to animals, and resisting police officers.

The dogs, identified as “Zika” and “Moxie,” were not seriously hurt, according to police.
