FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Fairfax County police are mourning the loss of one of its K9s after she lost her battle to cancer.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) announced on Monday that K9 Onyx had died. She served the force for 11 years in the Organized Crime and Narcotics unit and for the U.S. Postal Service.

Onyx retired in 2023 and “spent her final chapter surrounded by love before losing her battle with cancer.”

“Thank you for your loyal service, Onyx. You will always be part of our FCPD family,” FCPD said.
