Braun: Flags to be half-staff on Thursday in Indiana in remembrance of Sept. 11 victims, first responders

According to a news release from Indiana Gov. Mike Braun’s office, Braun directed that flags be lowered on Thursday at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset in remembrance of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed on Sept. 11, 2001, when hijackers crashed airplanes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in southwest Pennsylvania.

The release from Braun’s office stated that the flags will be in honor of the lives lost, as well as the first responders who “acted with courage to save countless lives.”

“The attacks of September 11 were an unspeakable tragedy,” Braun said in the release. “To the families who lost loved ones, my deepest condolences and most heartfelt prayers are with you. To all Hoosiers, as we remember the lives taken and the heroes who responded, may we also remember that what carried us through that dark time was not just our faith in our nation, but our faith in each other.”

Braun encourages all Hoosier businesses and residents to also lower their respective flags to honor and “show respect” to the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001.
