Baton Rouge couple faces charges in child sexual assault case involving 9-year-old

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Police arrested a couple accused of sexually assaulting a child in Baton Rouge.

Gary Head, 59, was charged with first-degree rape of a victim under the age of 13, and Kadijah Selders, 31, was charged with principal to first-degree rape of a victim under the age of 13.

According to an affidavit, officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department were called about a possible rape. The victim, Selders’ 9-year-old daughter, reported to detectives that Head had raped her.

Upon the officer’s arrival at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, the victim shared with authorities that Head sexually assaulted her for over two years. She said that Head would watch her and her siblings while Selders was at work.

The girl told four family members after the most recent encounter. According to police documents, the victim told Selders, but she called her a liar. A witness told investigators that another child had made the same accusations before being removed from the home and placed into state custody, but Selders refused to report it to the authorities.

During an interview with Selders, she told investigators she was unaware that Head was sexually assaulting her daughter before later saying someone had informed her about the sexual assault incident, but she could not remember who.

An affidavit stated that Head confessed to touching the victim inappropriately on multiple occasions.

No bail amount has been posted for either of the suspects, jail records show.
