Thousands of flags in Romare Bearden Park honor 9/11 victims

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Volunteers and local organizations took part in setting up nearly 3,000 American flags in Romare Bearden Park in Uptown in remembrance of the lives lost during the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The flags have been placed in the shape of the twin towers that were destroyed during the attacks. A photo of each victim is also placed with the flags.

On Thursday, a memorial ceremony will be held at the park to mark 24 years since the attacks.

A bell will be rung throughout the morning to recognize the prominent times of the attacks.
