At least, that’s what she thought.
That’s what she told WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood.
Then she found a quilt made by her great great grandmother and she knew that a needle and thread were in her past and her future.
During the pandemic, with a world weary from wearing all those masks, Fusilier had a notion and a question.
That is, would people trade the mask for a bandana? Not just any bandana, her bandana.
A bandana with bling.
A “Blingdana” as she named it and created a new word.
“It’s safety and it’s fashion and I do have a federal trademark,” said Fusilier.
From blingdanas, she moved on the the a runway-ready line of women’s clothes.
Sewing gave her something to do other than drinking.
“It was fun until it wasn’t. It got really dark,” said Fusilier.
She went to three different rehab treatment centers until the last one in November 2020 where she spent 55 days and got sober and into sewing.
And now here she is, on her way to New York City and Fashion Week.
“I’m very excited. It’s the next step in my progression and I’m really excited to bring Louisiana and New Orleans flare to New York,” said Fusilier.
