TOPEKA (KSNT) – The National Weather Service (NWS) of Topeka has issued special weather statements for thunderstorms and high winds impacting some northeast Kansas counties.
At 6:26 a.m., the NWS reported a cluster of strong thunderstorms near Pauline, moving southeast at 25 mph. It says residents could see wind gusts up to 50 mph that could knock down small tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
The NWS says frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is happening with this storm and that lightning can strike 10 miles from a thunderstorm.
27 News Meteorologist Ely Millard says an additional thunderstorm has developed in northwestern Pottawatomie County and northern Riley County, producing winds up to 40 mph and up to dime-sized hail.
