The “Next Gen Under 30” program is an initiative meant to uplift young voices in the state of Kansas. Today at the statehouse, event organizers recognized more than 300 individuals who are respected and dedicated leaders in their professions.
From health care workers, to educators, and many more. The “Next Gen” award is given to Kansans from several different nomination categories.
Katelyn Andrist, a Kansas author who won the award two years ago, tells us that the program has changed her life.
“I’m an author of a children’s book, and this program has just launched it for me,” said Andrist. “Going from Barnes & Noble to bookstores to public libraries. It’s not only just an award, it’s truly creating friendships that will last a lifetime.”
Additionally, event organizers say, the program keeps young leaders in the Sunflower State and gives them the opportunities they need to impact local communities.
One of the Directors for the program is a former standout basketball star from Wichita, Korleone Young. He tells us, uplifting young Kansans goes a long way towards making the state a better place.
“We have an obligation as Kansans to take care of Kansas,” said Young. “How we do that is we recognize them for the hard work, for the moral standards that they show, and just for the good person that they are.”
Award winners will also be recognized once again in Wichita on November 8th.
