Minneapolis council to discuss EllisonCouncil rules don’t allow for remote voting, something Ellison said he planned to do during his fellowship.
There could soon be more clarity on Minneapolis City Council member Jeremiah Ellison’s situation amid questions over his ability to juggle his full-time job with a Harvard fellowship.
The council’s Committee of the Whole is expected to discuss Ellison’s ability to do both during its meeting Tuesday afternoon.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has reported extensively on Ellison’s Harvard fellowship, which will force him to be out of the state. Ellison told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he plans to continue fulfilling his council duties, where he earns nearly $110,000.
Other members of the Minneapolis City Council have supported Ellison’s Harvard fellowship, despite council rules not allowing elected members to vote or participate in committee hearings and full city council meetings virtually.
Last week, Minneapolis City Council President Elliott Payne said that Ellison’s situation requires “a conversation with the city council.”
Ellison’s council term goes through the end of 2025. He announced he is not seeking reelection after representing the Northside since 2018.
