The Rockingham Police initiated a car chase with a vehicle identified by the Flock system as containing a wanted person. According to officials, the chase started late Sunday night.
The pursuit continued into Anson County, where deputies successfully used stop sticks to disable his vehicle on Hwy 74 near Harrington Road.
Officials said the driver, Scotty Roy Hills, ran into a wooded area and fired shots at pursuing officers, who then lost sight of him. Deputies did not say if anyone was injured from Hills’s gunfire.
Law enforcement is actively searching for Hills and he is considered armed and dangerous. He’s a white man, bald with a goatee and has many tattoos on his face and neck.
Anyone who sees Hills or knows where he may be should call the Anson County Sheriff’s Office or 911. Authorities say an award is being offered for any information leading to his arrest.
