Unemployment numbers continue to rise in northern Arkansas, southern Missouri in July

The latest unemployment numbers from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center show unemployment rates in north central Arkansas and southern Missouri continued to rise in July when compared to the June numbers. It was the second straight month with an increase in the unemployment figures.

In Baxter County, the rate increased from 4.5% in June to 4.6% in July. Baxter County’s rate is tied for the 30th lowest out of Arkansas’ 75 counties. There are 776 unemployed Baxter County residents out of a work force of 16,792.

Marion County’s rate went up from 6.1% in June to 6.5% in July, which is the 7th highest rate in the state. Marion County has 340 residents out of work from a labor force of 5,266.

Fulton County’s unemployment rate increased from 5.1% in June to 5.5% in July, which means they are the 54th lowest rate in the state. Fulton County has a labor force of 3,909 and 214 are unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Izard County went up from 6.1% in June to 7.2% in July, which has them the 3rd highest unemployment rate in the state. There are 274 Izard County residents unemployed out of a work force of 3,807.

In Stone County, the rate increased from 5.7% in June to 5.8% in July. That ranks Stone County tied for 56th in the state. There are 4,143 in the labor force in Stone County with 241 unemployed.

Searcy County’s unemployment rate moved up from 4.2% to 4.6% in July, ranking them tied for 30th lowest in Arkansas. There are 139 people unemployed in Searcy County out of a work force of 3,036.

Boone County saw its rate slide up from 4% in June to 4.8% in July, putting them in a tie for the 40th lowest rate in the state. Boone County has a work force of 16,110 with 775 out of work.

Newton County is tied for the state’s 46th lowest unemployment rate at 5.1%, up from 4.6% the previous month. Newton County has a labor force of 2,601 with 133 of those unemployed.

Arkansas’s state unemployment rate in July was 3.7%, the same as the previous month.

In southern Missouri, Ozark County’s rate went up from 6.3% in June to 6.9% in July. Ozark County had 214 unemployed out of a workforce of 3,121.

Douglas County saw its rate slide up from 4.9% in June to 5.3% in July. Douglas County has a labor force of 4,940 with 261 unemployed.

Howell County’s rate went up from 5.4% to 5.9% in July. In Howell County, there are 956 unemployed out of a workforce of 16,269.

Taney County’s rate had an increase from 4.6% in June to 4.8% in July. Taney County’s labor force is 29,482 with 1,402 unemployed.

Missouri’s state unemployment rate increased from 4.4% in June to 4.7% in July.
