TRAFFIC ALERT: Flex lane construction to begin on Pioneer Crossing

LEHI, Utah (ABC4) — Commuters traveling along Pioneer Road in Lehi will soon see the start of big changes along the road.

Beginning Sunday night and going into Monday morning, the Utah Department of Transportation will be removing the median to make way for new Flex Lanes along Pioneer Crossing. UDOT says two lanes will stay open in the day during the construction, but some lane closure are expecting Sunday evening as crews begin work.

Once the project is complete, Flex Lanes will be in place along Pioneer Crossing from Redwood Road to Interstate 15. UDOT says on their project page that the goal of the project is to help reduce rush hour congestion along the road between the two intersections. UDOT will convert the existing shoulders and center median into additional travel lanes.

UDOT says that once the project is complete, Pioneer Crossing will have up to four eastbound lanes in the morning and four westbound lanes in the evening. This is not the first Flex Lane project to be completed in Utah as the first set of Flex Lanes were completed along 5400 South in Taylorsville in November 2012.
