In an email to ABC4, officials with the Maverik Center confirmed that the team will be relocating to New Jersey following the 2025-26 season. The statement adds, “The Grizzlies will be ready to play at Maverik Center for the 2025-26 season, and hopefully it will be a successful season.”
The team moved to Utah from Colorado in 1995, and moved in to the Maverik Center, then called the E Center, in 1997. During their tenure in Utah, the Grizzlies won the Turner Cup in the 1995-96 season in the IHL, and played in the league until it folded in 2001. The team played in the AHL for four seasons before moving to the ECHL, where they have played since 2005.
The Elmore Sports Group, owner of the Grizzlies, announced in June they were exploring a possible sale of the team, with a statement saying, “Utah has been more than a home — it has been part of our identity. But ensuring the Grizzlies have the opportunity to thrive in the future may require new ownership and, potentially, a new home.”
The team said in that statement that the decision to explore a sale came after a period of transition for the longtime owners, with the death of former owner Dave Elmore in 2023 and the declining health of current co-owner Donna Tuttle.
Since moving to Utah, the Grizzlies have had a winning record in 19 seasons and have made the playoffs in 18 seasons. Over 200 players who have played for the Grizzlies have gone on to play in the National Hockey League.
