Arceneaux pushed back, saying the city maintains a strong working relationship with the DA’s office and emphasized the progress made in reducing crime. “All of us are fighting crime together, and we have an excellent relationship with the district attorney,” Arceneaux said. “Our homicides are down 43% from last year, and they were down in 2024 compared to 2023, so I think we have the crime situation going in the right direction.”
The mayor also highlighted a new SporTran app that gives riders real-time bus tracking and route planning, calling it a “terrific tool” to make public transit easier for the community.
In addition, Arceneaux discussed the Block by Block cleanup program, which resumes Saturday in Southern Hills. So far, crews and volunteers have collected over 3,000 tires and nearly a million pounds of trash. “Most importantly, we’ve been interacting with citizens door to door to hear their needs and help improve their neighborhoods,” he said.
Arceneaux also shared that he will be rappelling down the 50-story Fairmont Towers as part of the Over the Edge Fundraiser for Shreveport Common, an initiative he called a “great success story” in community redevelopment.
