Man drowns at Lake Powell after jumping off houseboat

KANE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A man died at Lake Powell on Saturday after jumping off of a houseboat and drowning.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release their dispatch received a call just before 8 p.m. Saturday evening regarding a man who jumped from the upper deck of a houseboat and had not resurfaced. The incident occurred on the north side of Wahweep Bay in Kane County.

Personnel from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Department of Natural Resources and National Park all responded to assist with the search. The victim was eventually located Sunday morning by divers from the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in about 17 feet of water. They were taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Salt Lake City for further investigation.

The victim is a 32-year-old male from Arizona, but his identity has not been released.
