Major drug bust follows Catawba County overdose death investigation
Major drug bust follows Catawba County overdose death investigation
CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Investigators with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office searched a residence on Greedy Highway Thursday as part of an ongoing investigation into a recent overdose death.

During the search, investigators seized:

  • Approximately 231 grams of methamphetamine
  • Approximately 10 grams of fentanyl
  • Three firearms
  • Assorted drug paraphernalia
  • $3,825 in U.S. currency

The suspect, Christopher David Buchanan, of Hickory, was arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking Methamphetamine
  • Trafficking Opium
  • Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling/Place for a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
  • Simple Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Buchanan was booked into the Catawba County Detention Facility, where he remains held without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 24.

The investigation is ongoing.
