While the nearly $1.8 billion Powerball prize was ultimately won by lottery players in Missouri and Texas in the Sept. 6 drawing, some players in Kansas also acquired big prizes of their own. The Kansas Lottery reports that three large Powerball prizes
“We had two big winners,” Cory Thone with the Kansas Lottery said. “A physical ticket sold in Northwest Kansas won $1 million, and then a ticket sold in our lottery app won the $2 million Powerball with Powerplay prize.”
The $2 million and $1 million ticket holders matched all five white balls in the drawing but didn’t get the red Powerball, according to the Kansas Lottery. A third person in northeast Kansas also won a $50,000 prize by matching four white balls and the red Powerball.
The winning numbers for the Sept. 6 Powerball drawing were 11-23-44-61-62 and a red Powerball of 17. The final estimated jackpot prize was $1.79 billion with a cash value of $820.6 million.
Powerball players have 60 days to collect their winnings and choose either the cash or annuity options, according to the Kansas Lottery. Prizes are subject to a federal tax of 24% and a state tax of 5%.
