Hartselle Police said on Saturday at about 8:30 p.m., the Priceville Police Department was engaged in a vehicle chase that entered Hartselle on Highway 36. The chase ended in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 31 and Highway 36, resulting in multiple injuries.
Six people were taken to the hospital, according to the department. Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn said that a 17-year-old boy died as a result of the incident.
Hartselle Police said the suspect in the vehicle involved in the chase who was originally reported to be arrested, identified as Archie Hale, is in the hospital and will be for an extended period of time.
The uncle of one of the other teenage victims in the crash said that his nephew was still in the hospital in stable condition as of Sunday night.
HPD also confirmed they are investigating and will be seeking surrounding area video, Priceville Police Department patrol car video, medical records for all involved parties, statements from all involved parties and witness statements as part of the investigation.
“This is a complex and in-depth investigation. As such, it will take time and will not be concluded in the near future,” Hartselle Police Chief Alan McDearmond told News 19.
Hartselle High School will have extra support personnel on campus on Monday. There will also be a community prayer gathering at the Hartselle High School Auditorium on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
