Wallace State’s Morgan, Leija Earn ACCC Cross Country weekly honors
Sophomore Brookelyn Morgan was named the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week following her 29th-place finish in the women’s 5K with a time of 18:47.69. Her effort paced the Lady Lions against a field that included several NCAA Division I programs.
On the men’s side, Daniel Leija earned recognition as the ACCC Men’s Co-Runner of the Week. Leija also placed 29th overall, finishing the four-mile course in 20:26.87, leading the Lions against a strong field of NCAA Division I and NJCAA Division I competition.
Both Morgan and Leija helped Wallace State make a strong impression in one of the most competitive meets of the season, showcasing the program’s ability to compete on a regional stage.
The Lions now turn their attention to their next test as both the men’s and women’s teams travel to Florence, Alabama, on Friday to compete in the North Alabama Invitational.
