Prairie D’Ane Battlefield, a National Landmark, was the site of four-day Federal and Confederate battles in April of 1864. The clean-up is in preparation for Civil War Days, which runs from Friday, October 31, to Sunday, November 2, with reenactments of these battles taking place on November 1 and 2.
“In early November, The Depot Museum will be partnering with Historic Washington State Park to present Civil War Days, but there is still a lot to do to prepare the battle site for the reenactment,” said Paul Ridgell, Board President. “This is a chance to finish what we started in May.”
The clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, at the Prairie D’Ane Battlefield, 2243 Highway 19. The event is $10 per vehicle and open to the public, with guided encampment tours offered.
“Anyone who would like to help is invited,” a press release stated. “Those who are able to bring their own tools are welcome to bring any of the following: cordless power drills, string trimmers, hammers, crowbars, buckets, etc. Professionals who volunteer their services can receive a tax write-off for the value of their work.”
