HERNDON, Va. (DC News Now) — A man was arrested after he allegedly tried to start a fire at a Herndon business over Labor Day weekend.

On Monday, Sept. 1, officers with the Herndon Police Department responded to a business in the Sunset Business Park after a security camera was stolen and a person tried to break in.

Police identified the suspect as Kevin Croghan, who allegedly tried twice to start a fire at the same location.

While looking for Croghan, Herndon police partnered with Fairfax County police, using a K9 unit, a helicopter and a drone.

He was successfully found in a wooded area near Fairfax County Parkway.

Croghan was charged with two counts of destruction of property and attempted burglary. Police noted that additional arson-related charges are under investigation.

He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

“This incident highlights the strong partnership between HPD and FCPD, which brought a safe resolution to a dangerous situation, and our partnership with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department’s Office of the Fire Marshal, which continues to support this investigation,” said Herndon police in a release.
