BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — September 5, 2025
A Bloomington man was arrested this week after leading Indiana State Police on a vehicle and foot chase through city streets before being found hiding under a porch, according to court records.
Shamole Demetrius Davis, 28, was charged with resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony, and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor, following the Sept. 3 incident, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Thursday in Monroe Circuit Court.
Indiana State Police Trooper Logan McDowell wrote in the affidavit that he clocked a 1999 Toyota Camry speeding 53 mph in a 35 mph zone on Vernal Pike. When he tried to stop the car, the driver—later identified as Davis—did not pull over and instead led officers on a chase through multiple streets, running several stop signs and nearly crashing.
The pursuit began on Vernal Pike, then continued south onto Lindbergh Drive, cutting through an apartment complex and onto Fountain. From there, the driver sped along Crescent Street and Oolitic Road before circling back through Lindbergh Drive.
The pursuit ended near 14th Street and Lindbergh Drive, where Davis abandoned the vehicle and ran. McDowell chased Davis to a residence on North Oolitic Road, where Bloomington police and Monroe County deputies established a perimeter. Officers later found Davis hiding under a porch at the home and took him into custody.
A records check revealed Davis was also wanted in Monroe County on a charge of battery by means of a deadly weapon. He was transported to the Monroe County Jail without further incident, police said. The Camry was towed from the scene.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
