Blind Sweetwater High student to play football on Sept. 5

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A blind Sweetwater High School student is set to play football for the Mustangs on September 5.

Cash Miles is a well-known student in the community, and his excitable personality is going to be showcased on the field. The Athletic Administrative Assistant for Sweetwater, Heather Holsey, spoke about what this means to Miles and told his story.

“He is very active in the school and he is a part of the band and the choir,” Holsey said. “His family also had the ‘Riding for Cash Bull Bash’ to help raise money for kids with vision disabilities. They did that for 18 years, and this year was their last year to do it. Cash is going to graduate in May and going to college down at ASU, I beleive. He just wants to experinece life and do whatever he can, and one of his biggest things was to play football. We are just wanting to make his dreams come true. We have talked with the coaches at Midland, and they are super excited and ready to work with and make this a memorable experience for Cash.”

Holsey spoke more about Miles and his impact that he has had to the people and community around him.

“He just has a passion for life,” Holsey said. “He loves everything Mustangs. He also plays in the band and marches with the band. He plays the drums, but he can play almost any instrument. When he was young, he loved music. So his mom and family have given him many instruments over the years to learn and play. I have personally known Cash since kindergarten. I actually started with him in kindergarten as his aid, and I have watched him grow up. He is very independant and smart. He is going to go out and do big things.”

With the big moment so important to Miles and his peers, they are making sure it will stand out on its own.

“His snap will be at around 6:45 before the game and we’re going celebrate the touchdown with Cash,” said Holsey. “We are going to do it before the game and we want to make sure that everyone will be there.”
