Stolen vehicle found submerged in water by OPD
OPD said officers responded just after 3:15 a.m. in the 100 block of East 10th Street to investigate the report of a vehicle left running while submerged under water.
“When officers arrived, they learned an individual had entered the victim’s vehicle the day before in a neighboring city without permission and left the area in the vehicle,” said Oakland PD in a statement to KRON4. “The vehicle was driven into Oakland and went underwater.”
Oakland police said its dive team helped recover the submerged car. Police did not provide a detailed description of the vehicle.
“Using their training, dive gear, and experience, the officer attached towing equipment to the vehicle, allowing the tow truck to pull it out of the water,” police added.
This is an active case. Anyone with information is strongly encouraged to contact OPD’s Criminal Investigations unit at (510) 238-3728. Anyone with videos or photos that could help with the investigation is asked to send them to cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
